CAVS win Eastern Conference—head to NBA Finals!

Coincidence that flourish’s signature color is orange, and basketballs are orange? Or that flourish calls Cleveland home, as do the Cavs ? We think not. We’re not claiming all responsibility for the Cavs’ success, but some of us were lucky enough to attend a playoff game, and the rest of us cheered them on against the Pistons from various sofas and barstools around town. Although it was hard to stay in our seats with all of the excitement! Especially during Game 5’s double-OT, where LeBron James was credited with delivering “possibly one of the greatest performances in NBA playoff history” by Marv Albert. And the 98-82 win in Game 6 wasn’t too shabby, either. Our office is within walking distance of the Cavs’ home arena, The Q, and we’re happy to be close to the action as they take on the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. Hats off to our hometown team!

Catch the first game in the NBA Final Series:
Thursday, June 7, 9:00 pm (at San Antonio)

Experience the energy and join all Cleveland fans at The Q for Free Playoff Watch Parties!

Planning a V.I.P.*?

Consider The Corner Alley, Cleveland’s newest and hippest, East 4th hot spot.

flourish celebrated the new year in style at the venue’s exclusive area dubbed “Millionaire’s Roll.” Once we finally convinced Jamie that the bowling shoes looked just fine with his designer socks, the evening was under way. We laughed our way through many frames and now understand why those close to Jileen have affectionately and for obvious reasons nicknamed her, “Turkey” Coy.

Have fun in the fast lane...we sure did!

Brandtson : The "T" Goes Before the "S"

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

Looking for something to do on Friday, February 9th?

Head to The Grog Shop and check out Cleveland’s very own, Brandtson.

Their fifth, and most recent release, Hello, Control is one of our favorite albums of 2006 and is available on iTunes.
Standout tracks include: “Earthquakes and Sharks”, “Friend or Faux,” and “Tapping the Vain.”
The bottom line on this band is that they write darn good songs and bring a lot of energy to the stage.

So, if you’re into lush guitars, double vocals and smart lyrics that incorporate words such as Chupacabras then we will see you on the dance floor on February 9th.

Many Gifts, many blessings

Trinity Cathedral, May 25th, 2006

Have you ever experienced an event that lifts your spirit, reaches into your core and touches your soul? The Friends of Cleveland School of the Arts Benefit, Many Gifts: Some of Which Are Hidden, was such an event. We consider ourselves among the blessed to have been recipients of the gifts shared by students of Cleveland School of the Arts. Their collaborative performance with renowned Japanese Taiko master Eitetsu Hayashi and his ensemble Fuun-no-Kai, was, without doubt, the silk embroidered ribbon on this beautifully presented package.

East not only met west but also blended harmoniously with it.

The evening commenced with a selection from Memoirs of a Geisha and moved seamlessly into a goose bump-inducing tribute to Scott Joplin. Homage fit for a king, a Duke, actually, was then paid to the legendary Ellington. Next, and daresay magically, audience members were transported into the imaginative art of Japanese storytelling. The energy and joy in the cathedral was palpable.

Finally, as Eitetsu took the stage, it was apparent that even Mother Nature wanted to be part of this historic performance. The dramatic lightening was a befitting partner to the thunderous reverberations of the Taiko drums. There’s no question why drums, throughout history, have been used to celebrate, communicate and exhilarate the masses.

Congratulations to the students of Cleveland School of the Arts. As you’ve shown us, gifts are to be shared. To everyone reading this, let’s embrace this call to action so that we all, each of us, can do our part to make the world a brighter, more accepting home for everyone.

flourish was thrilled to provide our photography and web design talent to the redesign of the Friends of Cleveland School of the Arts website. Thank you for welcoming us into your school with open arms, hearts and minds. Your generous spirit is an inspiration and beautiful example for all who walk through CSA’s doors.

What comes after Cuatro de Mayo?

Cinco de Mayo, of course!

The people of Cleveland have spoken and AOL City Guide has listened.
If you're looking for a way to celebrate, there's certainly no shortage of great Mexican fare, to be found in Cleveland.

Our personal favorites include Lopez in Cleveland Heights. Jileen recommends that you order their sea scallops entree, pronto!

Looking to try something new? Head on over to Momocho in Ohio City for some "creative modern Mexican." Sounds yummy to us.

Whether you enjoy salsa and sangria or tequila and tostadas, check out one of these restaurants and have a safe Cinco de Mayo.

Newsflash!

Spiderman spotted surfing down Euclid Avenue! See photo for details. Special thanks to Mary Elizabeth Sokol for providing this photo.

Stayed tuned for more photos.

Sam Raimi, Cleveland is ready for its close up

All traces of Cleveland have been removed as our very own Euclid Avenue has been shampooed, primped and transformed Madison–Avenue-style. Vacant storefronts have been brightened, banners advertising $6,400,000.00 lofts have been hoisted and NYC cabs can be seen lining the street. The city, and especially our neighborhood, is a buzz as Hollywood has come to town to shoot scenes for the upcoming feature, “Spider-Man 3.”

Hoping to catch a glimpse of Raimi, who’s back in the director’s chair for this third installment, a few of us flourish folk ventured through the Huron East alley to Euclid Avenue. We did not have any celebrity sightings but did capture some images for those of you not in Cleveland and those of you unable to navigate the sticky traffic situations.

Speaking of sticky traffic, here’s the scoop on street closings courtesy of cleveland.com.

Filming hours are 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Filmmakers have asked for intermittent pedestrian control. The schedule is subject to change.
Friday, April 21: Portions of Euclid Avenue from East 18th Street to Public Square and periodic traffic control along East Ninth Street throughout the day.
Saturday, April 22: Euclid Avenue from East 18th Street to Public Square and East Ninth Street from Prospect to Superior avenues.
Monday, April 24-Friday, April 28: Euclid Avenue from East 18th Street to Public Square.
Saturday, April 29: Euclid Avenue from East 18th Street to Public Square and East Ninth from Prospect to Superior Avenue.

The Studio Release Date is set for May 4, 2007. See you at the theater!
