Orange is still hot (or cold!)

Armed with a coupon to try the new Orange Infusion drinks at Caribou Coffee, I successfully made my way past the 5 foot tall snowbanks and slushy puddles in the parking lot that tried to get in the way of my prize. Relentless to taste liquid chocolate with a hint of orange, I opened the door, inhaled the coffee scent and made my way toward the smiling cashier. “I’ll have a decaf medium Orange Zest Mocha please... to go.” I waited until I got outside to take my first sip. Would the orange be too powerful? Would it taste artificial? The anticipation was too much to bear. Sssslurp... ahhhh. Dark chocolate and orange? What’s not to love? I’m embarrassed I ever doubted them.

We have a special affinity for orange at flourish. But we think you’ll like it, too.

The Kraft® of dessert making

flourish Designer, Jileen Coy, knows a great recipe when she sees one. Even better, she loves to share these recipes with friends.

The most recent comes to us courtesy of her cousin, Kate Wetzel, a Food Expert at Kraft Kitchens. Kate has created an OREO & Fudge Ice Cream cake that is a guaranteed sweet ending to any summertime meal. The secret ingredient is a frozen treat everyone loves: ice cream sandwiches. The best part? This cake takes only 10 minutes to put together.

This is not only a recipe that the entire family will love and ask you to make again but one the entire family can help prepare as well. Let the kids unwrap the ice cream sandwiches.

For further instruction on preparing this easy-to-assemble, beautiful cake, take a look at this video. While you’re there, be sure to sign up to have FREE ideas and recipes delivered to your email box each week!

Take our word for it and give this recipe a try. Bring this cake to your 4th of July gathering and turn red, white and blue into red, white and bliss.

Have a happy and safe holiday!

Iron Chefs Shuman and Coy

All eyes were on Steve and Jileen today as they whipped up a culinary frenzy in the flourish kitchen.

Today's secret ingredient: Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.

The orange apron strings were tied and they quickly began the task of arranging the symmetric squares on the cookie sheets. Steve could be heard saying, "don't worry if they touch, we'll just cut them apart when they come out;" a strategy that seems to be working for him.

Jileen was all business as she quickly dispelled the "metal on metal" myth. Metal spatula met metal cookie sheet without incident.

Steve, a bit flustered by Jileen's spatula savvy rummaged through cupboards in search of an elusive orange trivet, or "TRI-VAY" as they say in Lower Akron. He came up empty handed and settled on an orange oven mitt. Another fine example of his, "when in doubt, improvise" cooking philosophy.

We all watched the oven, thank goodness for the little light inside, as the dough took shape and formed perfect chocolate chip cookies. Exactly 11 and a half minutes later, Jileen and Steve took their respective sheets from the oven and called us all to the table to finalize the flourish kitchen initiation.

So, if you happen to be walking down Huron Road East, and smell cookies, don't think about stopping.

They're already gone.

What comes after Cuatro de Mayo?

Cinco de Mayo, of course!

The people of Cleveland have spoken and AOL City Guide has listened.
If you're looking for a way to celebrate, there's certainly no shortage of great Mexican fare, to be found in Cleveland.

Our personal favorites include Lopez in Cleveland Heights. Jileen recommends that you order their sea scallops entree, pronto!

Looking to try something new? Head on over to Momocho in Ohio City for some "creative modern Mexican." Sounds yummy to us.

Whether you enjoy salsa and sangria or tequila and tostadas, check out one of these restaurants and have a safe Cinco de Mayo.
